Last week: a niche is a category, and nobody has ever felt a category.

Today, why that runs in both directions at once, at her and at you.

Your reader is a cast in one body.

Same woman, three moments, three different humans in the chair.

Monday at 9am she's the professional who's quietly behind, tab open, jaw tight, needing to feel capable.

Tuesday at 9pm on the couch she's the tired one who wants permission to stop, and she does not want your five-step system, she wants somebody to tell her she isn't failing.

Sunday afternoon she's going to fix everything this week, hunting for a plan and a clean slate and something to believe in.

One post cannot reach all three.

It was never going to.

Which finally explains the thing that's quietly confused you for two years. You wrote something good and it landed.

You wrote the same kind of thing the next week and it died.

That wasn't the algorithm. You wrote to a self who wasn't in the chair.

And "customer" is the emptiest word in marketing.

Customer is a costume a person wears for four minutes at a checkout, then takes off and goes back to being a whole complicated human with a life.

Write to the costume and you reach nobody, because nobody has ever been a customer for longer than four minutes.

Write to the self who's actually sitting there tonight.

And here's the part about you. You're a cast too.

Somebody told you to pick a lane. So you looked at your whole self, took the one slice that seemed most sellable, and started posting as that.

It worked for a while. Then it went empty, and you decided you were out of ideas.

ā

You weren't out of ideas. You cut yourself down to a single part of you and then wondered why so little came through it.

You flattened yourself into the least interesting version of you, which is, not by accident, the version easiest for a machine to imitate.

You're a crowd in one body. The one serious about the work, and the one with an unreasonable relationship with a specific brand of hot sauce.

The one competent at 10am and a disaster at 10pm.

Your values underneath are the constant. The surface is many selves, and every one of them is material.

Your identities are your interests.

Your interests are the ideas.
